TEXT: Luke 15:20

“_"But when he was yet a great way off, his father saw him, and had compassion, and ran, and fell on his neck, and kissed him."_”

Beloved in the Lord, One of the most beautiful pictures of God's love is found in the parable of the prodigal son. While much attention is often given to the son's rebellion and return, the central figure in the story is the compassionate father who never gave up hope.

The younger son demanded his inheritance, left home, wasted everything in reckless living, and eventually found himself feeding swine. It was only in his brokenness that he came to his senses and decided to return home...not as a son, but hoping to be accepted as a servant.

To his surprise, the father was already watching for him.

_"When he was yet a great way off, his father saw him."_

This tells us that God never abandons those who sincerely turn back to Him. Before the son could explain himself, the father embraced him. Before he could earn forgiveness, he received mercy. Before he could prove himself, he was restored.

The father ordered the best robe, a ring, and sandals to be brought. These were not merely gifts; they were symbols of restored sonship, dignity, authority, and acceptance. This also means that sonship is beyond inheritance.

This is the heart of the Gospel. Our God delights not in condemning the repentant sinner but in restoring the broken. No matter how far one has wandered, the Father's grace is always greater than our failures.

For those of us in priesthood and clergy families, this parable is both a comfort and a challenge. We are called not only to experience the Father's mercy but also to reflect it. The Church must remain a place where the repentant find forgiveness, where the wounded find healing, and where the lost are welcomed home.
